i’m moving!

“click on me to go over to my new home!!”

i’ve decided to up sticks and move to blogger. don’t get me wrong, i love wordpress, but it’s all just too advanced for me and it’s got awful quiet all of a sudden on my end. blogger is so much easier in regards to theme and layout etc of my blog, not to mention it’s a lot more casual, meaning i don’t have to figure out css.

i’m not going to delete this blog though, it’ll be an archive for the first few months of therosyfreckle’s life. so if you’re ever wondering why this little old blog is quiet, check over on therosyfreckle.blogspot.co.uk and see what’s going on over there. i’d love it if you went over and checked it out (maybe even followed it if you do like my blog?)

but yes, au reviour, wordpress, you’ve been good to me.

cinnamon christmas cookies

a while ago, i found the best cookie recipe ever and it’s been my go to cookie recipe ever since. to start getting into the christmas spirit, i thought i’d mix it up a bit and make them more festive than normal by adding cinnamon. these cookies are so easy and quick to make and you can store them so that they last for a few weeks.

incase you can’t read my (scruffy) writing;

ingredients:

125g of butter, softened.

100g of light brown soft sugar.

125g of caster sugar.

1 egg, lightly beaten. (but if you’re using a mixer – which i’d suggest – i wouldn’t worry about beating it before adding to the mixture)

1tsp of vanilla extract.

225g of self raising flour. (the blue packet)

1/2 tsp of salt.

cinnamon to taste.

  • preheat the over to 180C/356F/gas mark 4.

  • cream butter and sugars. once creamed, combine in the egg and vanilla extract.

  • sift in flour & salt. add cinnamon to taste.

  • once it looks like the consistency of the above picture, roll into walnut sized balls.

  • place on ungreased baking paper equally spaced apart and bake for 7 minutes for doughy/gooey cookies or 10 minutes for harder cookies. depending on the size you want them, you could end up putting in a second batch (like i did).

  • take out and leave them to harden for a minute on the baking tray before transferring them to a cooling rack.

  • once they’re cool – get creative!

i’d love to see your finished cookies if you try them, or if you’ve got any christmas recipes, please feel free to link to them in the comments.

wanderlust – it’s getting stronger.

not too long ago, i blogged about getting a terrible itch in my foot. i talked about wanting to travel, knowing that it was just a pipe dream and that my fears would hold me back. but it’s getting stronger. the urge to go, it’s pulling at me and making it known that it’s here to stay.

i want to travel across europe. i need to experience the world – with it’s eclectic cultures and people. to know i have found myself, without the influence of the everyday – the pressure to grow up, to know everything by the time you’re 18 – is the thing i am clinging to, forever worrying that i am just become another consumer in a big brother world.

i feel alone and confused because everyone around me is finding themselves at university; transforming and evolving and leaving me behind. but at the same time, i am changing too. i can’t put up with the pettiness that is considered acceptable in today’s society. the need to bring me down and the indirect digs at the path i have decided to take.

i dream to explore. i want to go – get on a one way train to london and travel. i want to go to paris – but only for one day. i want to go to amsterdam and norway and sweden. i want to explore brussels and austria. i want to travel through the night on a train to warsaw and croatia and drink (a small amount of) vodka in russia. i want to ride a vespa in italy and eat pasta in a square with a fountain and stalls selling fresh fruit and roses.

i want to find myself and find god – truly. i want to go on a train. i want to go alone. i want to go tomorrow.

my top five iphoneography apps.

instagram

obviously, the most well known and popular photo sharing app around. there are so many creative people on instagram and so many wonderfully nice communities.

vsco cam

i always use vsco cam to take pictures on my iphone, i just think the quality of it is so much better than the standard iphone camera. i’ll sometimes use the colour wheel settings and the ‘fade’ and ‘fill’ settings.

afterglow

afterglow is a brand new app and i actually only discovered it around a week ago, but already it has become a firm favourite and an app i use daily. after i’ve taken a photo on vsco, i’ll normally export it and then use afterglow to edit the brightness, sharpness etc. i love the filters on afterglow, especially the fact you can choose the intensity of them. they have a good variety of frames too – the circle and triangles being my favourite. the best part is, it’s free!

squareready

squareready is a lifesaver! when it comes to uploading images to facebook, you have to chop your picture up so that it’s a square. sometimes, those sides you are having to cut off are just the best part about the picture! but the automatic black background that you get just isn’t great, especially when looking at the image full size, it looks better for it just to blend into the feed. this is where squareready comes in. you can make your picture fit into a square with whatever colour background you want – be that teal, maroon or blue, there’s a whole colour chart to pick from.

diptic

diptic is my favourite collage app. you can choose from loads of different layouts and you can upload several different images together as one. i don’t use it all that much, but it’s always handy to have!

what are your favourite iphoneography apps? let me know!

moodboard.

i can never settle on how my room looks, i am always thinking about how i can change it and make it better. i’ve created a moodboard of things i have or i’d love to have in my room that i’m loving right now.

ikea nordli bed frame. // string shelf. // uo chevron rug. // ikea malm bedside table. // diptique ambre candle. // muji storage drawers. // ikea faux sheepskin rug. (to make no. 10 super comfy.) // ikea stockholm cushion. // ikea lykta table lamp. // ikea högsten armchair. (which i know is for outside but i just love it so much.)

how do you decorate your room? what style do you go for?

*none of the photos in this post were taken by me, i have credited them back to the source.

winter nail varnish picks.

if you know me, you know how many bottles of nail varnish i have – it’s a lot. and there’s always one that catches my eye and i’ll wear it pretty much everyday for two weeks until i get bored and then move on to the next one. this meant that there were so many colours that i was forgetting about and they’d dry out/go gloopy before i ever got the chance to wear them. so, when my mum brought me back a beautiful plate from finland when she went to visit her friend, i knew exactly what i wanted to do with it.

every two weeks, i’ll open my nail varnish drawers and pick out 7 or 8 nail varnishes that catch my eye and i can imagine going with outfits i’ve put together in my mind, then i’ll put the previous two weeks varnishes and put them back. then, i have my top 7/8 to pick from and it means that i get so much more use out of every single nail varnish i own.

my top seven nail varnishes for winter this year are;

  •  angora cardie by essie.
  •  lady in black by opi.
  •   forbidden by revlon.
  •  luxe and lush by china glaze (capitol colors).
  •  factory grey by american apparel.
  •  jade is the new black by opi.
  •  victoria and albert by nails inc.

and of course, my favourite base and top coats; opi nail envy and seche vtite.

do you have a nail varnish problem like me? what’s your favourite right now?

autumn walk.

about 10 minutes from my house, there is a hall and country park. i really wanted to get some pictures before fall was officially over, and although i pretty much missed the boat, i was still able to get a few. i liked going during the week because apart from several dog walkers, it was just me and my mum. we strolled around for a bit and tried to make friends with the longhorns, then on our way back to the car, i spotted the cutest old couple walking hand in hand under the bridge, it was sweet.
